A Matter of the Heart by Lawrence Darmani

By Lawrence Darmarni·
When my heart decides My love, watch this happen It swells the blood of life Like over-ripe fruit Hanging too close to earth Only for the boys to throw stones And wag their sticks like tails Those words, my love, Pronounced with dainty lips Were arrows of sparrows Flying too close for comfort To this swollen organ About to sob, straining, fighting About to throw in the towel Sobbing I did, wiping the tears Not to spite the lips of beauty But in sublime adoration Of your love defined Like dove flying unhindered Into her guarded cage She eventually takes refuge Count the stars—surely you can Their numeral thought of you Delineates my heartbeat On account of my affection This seed of your love When my heart decides The die is cast for life to evolve
