Spreading Sunshine by Lawrence Darmani

By Lawrence Darmarni·
A little sunshine into gloomy darkness Glowing tolerance that quells melancholy And peace comes sliding in, invited For wisdom says where words are many Mishaps come gliding in, uninvited Prudent sees conflict advancing Decides to employ softer answers Wrath turned away, aggression averted Serene verses quieten boiling heartbeats Amity floods the atmosphere On the way to the judicial servant Adversary bitterly indicting Says the ancient Writ’s Tarry by the way and reason out: How about give-and-take talk? Compromise strolls harmoniously Down the path of painful regrets Who knows, the adversary wishes To abrogate pointless disputes Flourishing neighbourliness ensues Tiny tongues shaped like flaming darts Set forests ablaze, consuming lives When restless lips dispense shady vibes Peace flies out of the window unimpeded Hostility gallops in unhindered Bits tamed the Arion and the Pegasus Huge liners directed by minute rudders Asks the sacred creeds old and new Who, among mortals, can tame tongues Or instruct the lips to shut up? Double nostrils to breathe more freely Two eyes to see and observe ardently Dual ears to hear more to understand Twin hands to raise in worshipful prayer Two feet to go in pursuit of peace One mouth talking less promotes peace Spreading sunshine douses raging fires Dark clouds threaten rain and ruin Then brightness radiates into darkness Dispatching oneness into feuding folks Or else there awaits the heartless judge Whom you cannot indict for contempt For humanity turned him into rigidity As long as fire collides fire While serenity knits all together Look beyond the gathering cumulus There appears lining as bright as silver Even when downpour floods the horizon There shall come the golden day When weeping night breaks into a dance Amidst stampeding war shrieks Raging at the four corners of our land When shells drop on mine fields Let grasshoppers become giants And the sun breaks through dark clouds We shall frolic like calves well suckled Once our fortunes are soon restored And broken cisterns now gather water Then dwellers of the hinterlands beyond Will wonder how divine selection is our lot
